Admissions and Transitions

Choosing the right school and preparing for a change can feel like a big step. This page explains where to start and where parents and carers can find further help.

Where Do I Start?

1. Find Out More

Read about our schools and the children and young people they support.

2. Visit the School

Parents and carers considering one of our schools are welcome to contact the school about visiting.

3. Speak to Your Local Authority

Special school placements are considered through the SEND and Education, Health and Care Plan process.

4. Plan the Transition

When a placement is confirmed, planning can help your child prepare for their new school.

Does Your Child Have an EHCP?

An Education, Health and Care Plan, usually called an EHCP, describes a child or young person's education, health and social care needs and the additional support required.

If you would like a special school to be considered for your child, speak to the SEND team responsible for your child's EHCP.

Preparing for a New School

Starting a new school can be a significant change. A little preparation can help make the transition more familiar.

Visit

Take opportunities offered by the school to visit and become familiar with the setting.

Share Information

Tell the new school what helps your child to feel comfortable, communicate and learn.

Talk About the Change

Talk about the new school in a way that works for your child and give them opportunities to ask questions.

Moving to Woodfield School

Woodfield states that pupils due to start the following September have an opportunity to attend an induction programme in July to support their transition.

Moving to The Village School

The Village School explains that where it can meet a child's special educational needs and the placement is confirmed, a transition plan is developed with a mutually agreed start date.

Every Child's Journey Is Different

Ask questions, visit the school and share what is important for your child. Working together can help make the move to a new setting as positive as possible.
